PEP « Particle Environment Package »

The Particle Environment Package instrument (PEP) comprises a suite of sensors to measure particles in the Jovian environment encountered by JUICE. It is able to detect electrons, ions, energetic neutral atoms and neutral gas in the energy range from 0.001 eV to more than 1 MeV, with full angular coverage.

PEP consists of six sensors distributed around the spacecraft as shown here:

Under its contribution to the JENI and JDC sensors, the IRAP astrophysics and planetology research institute is responsible for:

  • Procuring the MCPs (Multi-Channel Plates) for JENI
  • Delivering the power electronics (SHVPS) to the PI for JDC
